Eyecare Kenya
It takes only a single idea, a single action to move the world
Spanda Inc's mission for Eye Care Kenya is to raise awareness for the health care needs of the orphaned children in Africa due to AIDS. It is no secret that AIDS is devastating the continent of Africa. Since the outbreak of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Kenya in the 80's, nearly every family has been affected in some way. According to information provided by UNICEF, there are currently over 34 million orphans in Sub-Saharan Africa, 1.6 million of them residing in Kenya.
A new mission was introduced to us from Empowering Lives International (ELI), an opportunity to gather resources and provide an eye care outreach program to the impoverished children in East Africa. The rural villages of Africa struggle with having little to no resources, poor eye sight and ophthalmic diseases due to malnutrition. Great organizations, such as ELI, have given them basic treatment and educational material, but these villages still struggle.
A Kenyan's outlook comes from a simple culture and they are a very strong people. They demonstrate this by being able to survive in conditions far harsher to what Americans typically have to face on a day-to-day basis. With open hearts and minds Spanda Inc. thrives not only to sustain a village, but also to learn from the Kenyans.
