How/why did you get involved in an eye care profession?
I became fascinated with the eye and its function in high school physiology and continued a path through college that led me toward Optometry School. While in college, I worked as an optician and gained practical experience and knowledge about optometry reinforcing my goal to become an optometrist.
What do you consider to be your specialty within the practice?
Sports vision, ocular disease, and contact lenses.
How long have you been in practice?
I recently graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry (Class of 2006).
What has been a significant challenge that you've faced, professionally?
Telling a patient recently diagnosed with a debilitating eye disease that they will likely lose their vision permanently. In my opinion, nothing is harder for an eye doctor than that.
What is most fulfilling about your profession?
Helping people do the things they love to do by providing them with clear and comfortable vision.
What hobbies do you have outside of work?
Inline skating, softball, reading, and spending time with my wife Heather and daughter Allison.
What professional/personal goals do you have for the future?
Help to develop a successful and flourishing Sports Vision Program, and provide all patients with quality eye care catering to all of their specific visual needs.
What makes your eye care office unique?
State of the art technology for the treatment and management of ocular disease, a beautiful optical dispensary, and the developing Sports Vision Program.
Why is it important to maintain eye care? What does that maintenance require?
Vision is the most important sense we have when it comes to navigating through the world. Keeping this sense in prime working order is the dual responsibility of the doctor and the patient. Basic eye care involves yearly (at least) visits for thorough evaluation of vision and eye health by an eye care professional.
Why should individuals in CR come to your office (or you specifically) for their eye care needs?
Our office strives to provide the best possible eye care in a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. Our staff and doctors are friendly and knowledgeable, and work hard to accommodate all of our patients' visual needs. Whether a patient has advanced eye disease, would like new contact lenses or glasses, or simply needs a yearly evaluation, they can rest assured that our office can provide them with the service they desire.
Anything to add?
As a new member to the community of Cedar Rapids, I look forward to meeting as many people as possible, and developing a lot of great relationships with patients.
